There's a lot of research that suggests that asking questions is an essential part of learning. My experience says that this is true. I always take time for Q&As in my classes and workshops because I feel that it's an essential part of bringing Qigong, Tai Chi, and Meditation into the 21st century.
"Sifu, how many Qigong exercises do you know?" she asked. Whenever students ask me a question, I do my best to answer it. But this time, I honestly couldn't.
If you've been paying attention lately -- if you've been practicing mindfulness -- then you've noticed a sudden increase in media attention about something called mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness is the latest craze sweeping across America...
Once you stop making this mistake, you'll immediately start seeing better results. Immediately. Not 3 months later, and not even 3 days later, but immediately.
Today is Valentine's day. While I sometimes feel like this holiday is more about selling cards, flowers, and chocolate than it is about love, I still think it's a good time to talk to you about qi and sexual energy.
Ten years ago, I did something stupid. Totally crazy. And risky. At least that's what the voices in my head told me.
But there were other voices in there too. You know -- the voices that encourage you to be brave, to go for what you want, to chase your dreams.
You know what I'm talking about. I know you do.
But more about you later. First, let's talk about me.
In the movie "The Matrix", Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) wakes up from a training session and then says the 4 words that I often dreamed of saying as a kid: "I know Kung Fu."
Now imagine Neo waking up and saying this instead: "I know Tai Chi."
Not quite the same impact, right?
I'm not a doctor, and I don't even play one on TV. But students often ask for my opinion on this subject. Why? Probably because the Kung Fu tradition (which includes Qigong and Tai Chi) contains a lot of wisdom. And in the 21st century, I think that this kind of ancient wisdom is precisely what we sometimes need to hear.
Personally, I don't get into very many sword fights these days. Even battle-axe and spear fights seem to be on the decline. Be that as it may, I still find it exceedingly useful to train as though I'm going to be in a sword fight someday soon.
Wouldn't you like to know their secret? I mean, if you had that kind of discipline, you could make amazing changes, build healthy new habits, eliminate bad ones, and create the life you dream of! I'll reveal their secret, and it may very well change your life. But I'm warning you: You're probably going to be surprised.
