I’m Anthony Korahais, and I created Flowing Zen because I know what it’s like to suffer.
Today, I’m happy, healthy, and full of vitality! But that wasn’t always the case.
What’s the opposite of happy, healthy, and full of vitality?
Whatever that is — that’s what I was before I discovered qigong and tai chi!
I’m passionate about teaching these arts because they saved my life. I used them to overcome a severe case of clinical depression, terrible low back pain, anxiety attacks, and a bunch of other issues as well!
Simply put, qigong and tai chi are my medicine.
Since 2005, I’ve been on a mission to share these arts with the world. In that time, I’ve been privileged to help over 10,000 amazing people with a wide variety of health challenges.
Today, I’m the Director of Flowing Zen and I’ve certified over 40 instructors to teach.

In other words, this is not just a hobby! All of my life energy is directed toward teaching and educating people about qigong and tai chi.
There are millions of people suffering out there, and I am determined to help as many as I can.
I especially love working with people who are ready for real change but never in a million years imagined themselves doing something like qigong or tai chi.
If you’re ready to start healing your physical and emotional pain, then I hope you’ll give qigong and tai chi a try!
By the way, if you’re confused about the connection between qigong and tai chi, then this short video will help. (Turn on your sound too!)
My Journey
I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in my 20s. I’m not exaggerating when I say that depression almost killed me.
According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression. It is also the leading cause of disability worldwide, and a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease.
It’s a serious illness, and it kills over 40,000 Americans every year, making it a top 10 killer here.
I was living in New York City (where I was born) at the time, and I vividly remember waking up each morning and wondering if “it” would still be there. Maybe the fog of despair had gone away during the night?
The fog returned every morning, engulfing me once again in its darkness. I can’t count the number of times I thought about dying.
But I didn’t want to die, and I started looking for a solution.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed, my search led me to qigong and tai chi!
I started with books, an later traveled the world looking for masters.
What I learned from these masters wasn’t just the techniques, but also a beautiful philosophy.
I learned about something that the ancient Chinese masters called the “harmony of yin and yang” — and that our natural healing systems will become supercharged when we achieve this state.
And when that happens, the energy that mobilizes and powers the immune system, produces the proper enzymes for digestion, repairs damaged cells, flushes away toxic waste, and balances the emotions — all of that energy starts to flow harmoniously, thus keeping us happy and healthy.
And that’s exactly what I experienced as I practiced the techniques that I learned.
My depression and anxiety subsided. My back pain dissolved. I was able to return to a normal life.
Over the years, I got such awesome results from practicing that I decided to quit my job as a network engineer in NYC. I was tired of helping people with computers and wanted to start helping people with their depression, anxiety, and chronic pain.
I truly believe that qigong and tai chi are the future of medicine and that more and more people will be looking inside rather than outside for healing.
My Teachers
Over the years, I studied with some amazing people. My main teachers were Bonnie Baker (Goju-Ryu Karate), Semyon Kobialka (Kickboxing), Hui Cambrelen (Northern Shaolin Kung Fu), Wong Kiew Kit (Southern Shaolin Kung Fu, Qigong), and C.K. Chu (Tai Chi Chuan and Nei Gong).
But I was also heavily influenced by many other teachers. In some cases, I only learned from these people for 10-12 hours over a weekend workshop. But they people left an indelible mark on me, and I still practice what they taught me all these years later. I feel the need to honor them as well.
These other teachers include: Yang Jwing Ming, Park Bok Nam, Bruce Frantzis, William C.C. Chen, Bingkun Hu, Zhang Yun, David Anderson, Paul Campbell, Teruo Chinen, and Yap Soon-Yeong.
I’m grateful to all my teachers, and also to all the past masters who developed, honed, and refined the arts of tai chi and qigong into the sophisticated arts that we’ve inherited today!
The Future…
I am passionate about teaching. People often tell me that I was born to teach. I’m the son of two music teachers, so maybe that’s true!
In any case, I take pride in my teaching and I also take it seriously because the arts that I teach change lives.
These days, most people call me Sifu, which is a traditional Chinese title for a teacher of qigong or tai chi.
My greatest joy comes from watching a student grow, whether it is by overcoming some sort of health problem, or by becoming a better person.
