I totally get the intimidation part. I blame the larger tai chi community, which is full of gatekeepers and weirdos. My Substack is what you're looking for!

After 40+ years of endurance training and competition Tai Chi feels intimidating.i am not often intimidated.
I have been fascinated by the wisdom and discipline of ancient cultures since I was a tiny child. I am going to seek better understanding of something that leaves me feeling out of my depth, qi and shen.
In addition to learning I will practice until I gain understanding. Thank you for the gift of your time and energy.

Hello Anthony (or who ever is handling comments today)

Background - I am an intermediate Taiji player with over a decade of daily practice; and as a result of old inuries, I am "bone on bone from knee to neck". According to western medicine I shouldn't even be able to walk, much less perform "snake creeps down and cock stands on one leg" easily.
My reason for commenting is that I've probably read the 10 principles a hundred times before and was about to write up my take on them for people who ask me about "that Taiji thing I do" when I discovered your post.
You have covered them better than I think I would, so I'm sending folks a link rather than writing my own. You made two really good points :
1 " if they can walk, then they can learn to differentiate between empty and solid" Yes, exactly.
2 "to be a great violinist, you must play all the notes and play with spirit" Any musician, artist, or athlete must get the spirit right to stick with it long enough to go beyond the mechanics.
Thanks again
