It sounds like you need a form of stress relief other than smoking. It seems pretty clear that you are not managing your stress.

I'm almost at one full year after successfully quitting cold turkey, not one cigarette, not one drag of someone else's cigarette even, since then. And I have to say... life is not beautiful. Even after all this time, I honestly feel worse than I ever did while smoking, I'm stressed, anxiety-riddled and irritable, my temper seems as explosive as it was mere weeks into quitting, to the point where I'm not wholly convinced that smoking wouldn't extend my lifetime because all these outbursts are probably going to give me a heart attack some day, bad enough that I got myself tested for diabetes just in case, but nope.

Well written! It's all about being well prepared. If you would not change your eating habit first, you will gain weight while quiting. You will have so many cravings for some substitute to your addiction and believe me, they would not be the healthy one for sure ;) more pizzas and hamburgers for the lunch, more snacks, more sodas, more alcohol etc. If you want to do it right, check this book - net-bossorg/the-easiest-way-to-quit-smoking-for-life

Just start chewing tobacco instead of smoking, it's way easier to quit the stuff. Once your nicotine cravings are fully focused on chewing tobacco, then just go ahead and quit it. I find that I didn't get any physical withdrawal symptoms with chewing tobacco, just some irritability for a few days. Smoking, on the other hand, brought on flu-like withdrawal symptoms, yuck!

I want to smoke.
Yet, I hate myself for wanting it.
I have not had one for five days now but smoked about 6 "standard" cigs a day (My brand is a fancy, tiny cancer-stick; an entire pack is about 6 of any reg cig). I began in earnest at 15, I am now 43.
Literally, Dr's would laugh at my "little" habit when I would show them the pack. LAUGH.
Problem is, the health crap still gets you; the infections, the lessening of air, the damage to skin, etc...
But I am sad; this is my vice, what has been a part of my life and I enjoy/ed it. I hate feeling so pathetic in my want of it, even as I feel better from not having it as I write.
Crying over the thing that makes me weak and sick just feels so...Missing it so badly is what makes me almost unable to stand myself.
TYSM for this article.
