Dear Sifu,

Regarding 勁... According to Pleco (Chinese-English dicctionary app I use) it is both jìn and jìng... It is jìn when a noun (strength, energy) and jìng when an adjective (strong, powerful).
I think it's a pretty good app (I think it's amazing!), however, I have also heard critics about it from Chinese teachers.
Of course, in the case of 内勁 it would be a noun anyway, if I get it right, so remains nèi jìn...🙏
Just my grain of salt... I am as enthusiastic about the Chinese language as about Tai Chi... (actually, I started to learn the language because of it😊)

Regarding internal strength... Once an emotionally charged look physically hit me. It was hate. I'm quite sure the person who gave it to me wasn't conscious of it. Maybe it's totally off the track but it was more than interesting and reading this article made me remember it. It was years ago and I still wonder what it was and how it happened.

I'm wondering if willpower has anything to do with internal strength.

Thank you Sifu! I can't find the way out of your site! 😂 But I have made notes and I'm ready to rest my eyes and mind a bit and to Lift The Sky... Thank you again! GRATITUDE

Hello!
Very good post, I am constantly looking for information about inner strength, energy, and your article is very helpful :)
It seems to me that I really feel this energy, I meditated a lot, at the beginning I felt it very weakly and I had to focus hard for some time, now I feel it at the "call", I had some "successes" with this energy (not very spectacular but still) Is it possible to ask you a few questions / contact you?

Best regards, nice and warm :)

I would love to know about spiritual examples of internal strength - could you elaborate on that?

Master Wayson Liao's explanation makes sense by my thinking of qi as one of several types of subtle energy (qi is the etheric energy of Indian and magickal traditions). If you can integrate the energy of qi together with higher frequency subtle energies then you might be able to manifest a bit of power. That's what I am guessing anyway.

Hi Tom. I'm glad you realize that the techniques themselves have little to do with your growth. It's the overall practice and the 5-Phase Routine that really creates growth!

Good morning Sifu,
At age 86 building internal strength seems much more important than building external strength and the fascinating reality is that as my internal strength manifests itself so does the external. It appears to me that which Qigong "technics" I daily practice has little to do with my growth. I will be able to "break only the bottom brick" when I know I can. i.e. my focus is 100%, my purpose is absolute, my concentration takes me to the Zen state of mind immediately and I see only the bottom brick break. You can read more of my Chi philosophy in my soon to be released Kindle book at amazon, The Path to a Quantum Computer by Thomas Judge.

Hey sifu what would you recommend as the top 3 or 5 techniques for working on the ability to break the bottom brick?

Obviously you've mentioned pushing mountain(which is naturally one of my all time favorites) and big windmill(also a natural favorite) before but are there a couple more ideally/standard techniques to practice on a frequent bases with those 2 or are those(along with whatever others I add during each session) enough?

Thank you sifu,
Have a great day

From my experience using Qi to increase strength isn't especially hard but I do wonder how to supplement this. First my method, then why it's incomplete.

Clear your mind, breath deeply once or twice, set your resolve (clearly 'see' what you're going to do.. but don't focus on it or think*) feel your Qi build around relevant areas (arms, legs, back for example) until it's kind of hot(or feels like an electrical arc looks like it feels*) then let your muscles soak it up kind of like a sponge.. Then just do it... No thoughts just action.

Ok, well, describing my home brewed technique was kind of painful.. long winded and feels like it lacks precision.. but it's one example of using internal force as supplementation before I'd ever heard of Qi gong. I'd carry 150-200 pounds across a warehouse, put it down, then move myself when I went to push it without the prep.

On that note, my ramble complete, I did this a few months ago and 'popped' something in my wrist so I feel it's an incomplete method at this stage. Do you think I could perfect this with time and practice? Chinese medicine nailed that putting Qi into the joint didn't really help anything.

I'm sorry I rambled but I don't get much opportunity to discuss this stuff.
Best Wishes!
