Your article is very interesting, I also practice Tai Chi Chuan, my teacher also teaches the martial art aspect of Tai Chi Chuan where he shows and explains how to use the moves, he breaks down each movement and shows the practicality of the moves and how to use the movement for self defense. We also practice Qigong before we practice Tai Chi Chuan, we learn two forms the first form one is a fusion or combination Tai Chi and form two is the Yang style short form, my teacher modified the form a little from traditional to practical, only one move, I really enjoy practicing Tai chi Chuan.

I wanted to know the difference between Kung Fu & Gong Fu & after searching for it on google, your website had the first rank & I am really thankful for that. Just day before yesterday I was looking to learn chinese & came upon N number of articles regarding the tones & the difficulty faced by non natives. Even then the way you have taken the trouble to explain everything in so simple words & with wonderful examples ( with a dollop of humour) , I have become a fan of your site. Great & wonderful work , keep it up.

I started learning Tai chi from kung fu teacher. Yang style long form over a year ago. Memorizing it killed me. Did roughly about 1/3 and couldn't stick more to my mind. But what he was doing after each lesson of a form there ware two lessons how to use it in fight and what that form means. Did enjoy it but gave up and started qigong .

I like what you have written I train in the old style of ancient tai chi which has given me a new least of life. I can bring tai chi to the 21st century but people still don't understand I want to show more of my skills to a wider world

Speaking of kung fu films, and of Neo, and of Tai Chi being a martial art, Man of Tai Chi is a good example of a piece of artwork that is helping to change people's understanding of the nature of this art.
