Thank you for this. The conceptual framework inherent in the 12 dimensions model is fascinating. It certainly helps to understand where many of the forms fit in and what their purpose is. That can only smooth the learning journey. I'd love to learn more.

I have a big interest in learning more about all of these 12 skills, a small introduction intro on what all these levels actually entail would be a great start. I think all layers are fascinating! Are you planning on bringing out an in-depth series of blogposts, book or course specifically about these 12 skills? I’d love to learn more knowledge about this, there is so very little to find on the subject.

For now I am enjoying to learn how to sense/discover and hopefully circulate the Qi. Have been doing short rounds of Lifting the sky and notice my shoulders do a little happy shimmy when my arms are almost down. (I wish I could go longer but I’m not allowed to stand for more than a minute at a time for now)

I’ve heard someone talk in a YouTube video about after the exercise feeling like they are floating in a giant ball of Qi that moves with them. That sounds absolutely wonderful! Is that projecting it out of the body?
I also heard that a Qi ball you make and circulate purposely can be made to function like a shield to keep out bad vibes/energies like when you are in a crowd of people, and keep in your own energy and draw on good vibes. Is there anything to that in your opinion? Is this a skill in QiGong?

what does transforming the Qi mean?

thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Hi Philippa. Yes, of course we connect with Cosmic Qi! In fact, the main style of qigong that I studied was called Shaolin Cosmos Qigong!

Sigh Anthony I would love to learn, and have further understading about the 12 dimensions.
When we practice Qigong we not only connect to our own energy field, rather, also the cosmic universal energy field.....what do you think : )
Thank you for response to my enquiry

I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to comment on your essay on the 12 dimensions, but it certainly sounds like an essential to learn and to always accompany us, so I look forward to exploring it. The multidimensional integrations of the never ending spiral is thrilling. I do love spirals!!!

Thank you!

Thank you Sifu for making clear the distinction between skill and technique. I think it will inform my practice. How I understood it is that skills are a wide base underneath the techniques, the techniques are a way of embodying the skills and the skills can be practiced in different ways at different times through practicing the various techniques. Is that close? The 12 Dimensions as a spiral chimes with my buddhist experience, so I had a big smile when I got that! I feel that the diagram and the explanation is a concept that will gradually become embodied through qigong practice and increasing awareness, like it's a rough drawing to help guide us inwardly, rather than a literal diagram of how it will look and feel, which is where my Western mind would naturally take it :) I'm excited and curious to learn and experience more about the 12 Dimensions. Thank you Sifu.

In reply to <a href="https://flowingzen.com/do-you-know-all-12-skills-of-qi-cultivation/#comment-88309">Krissy</a>.

Hi Krissy. I'm glad this article was helpful. I talk about this a bit more in my book, and we go through many of the skills in my online programs.

Mobilizing is the most confusing one. Here's an excerpt from my book, which is a little clearer than the blog post:

"In the past, internal martial arts masters could instantly summon their qi and direct it into a punch, a kick, or a throw. This is known as fajin (發勁), or exploding power. It sounds like the stuff of kung fu movies, but there’s nothing mysterious about it. This skill is all about using your strength, fascia, and body mechanics as efficiently as possible.

"Even if you have zero interest in martial arts, this skill will help you to get in touch with the spirit of the peaceful warrior, which will make you more courageous, more decisive, and help you to draw better personal boundaries. This is also one of the best ways I’ve found to regulate hormones. In Flowing Zen Qigong, we typically Mobilize the Qi using techniques from a set called The 18 Arhat Arts, or from an art called One Finger Zen."

Hello Sifu,
I am so very excited to hear of the 12 dimensions of qi. This is exactly what I feel was lacking in my previous studies of qi gong. Through my own exploration I've experienced some of these but am most curious about mobilizing and unifying the qi. These are completely new concepts to me and I cannot wait to hear more. This is a brilliant explanation of qi gong skills.
Thank you.
