In reply to <a href="https://flowingzen.com/the-small-universe/#comment-95145">Sandra</a>.

There are different directions. Sifu Yang Jing Ming says that the Fire Path moves qi up the back (Du) and down the front (Ren). This is the standard Small Universe (Microcosmic Orbit) discussed in this article.

The Wind Path is the reverse direction: qi is drawn up the front of the body and sent down the back. Sifu Yang says this method is more cooling and is often used for grounding, calming the mind, or circulating excess heat from the upper body.

Warren,
I was also a victim of this “Gary”. I heard rumors about other victims and a specific story about a woman he abused as they travelled with Sifu Wong several years ago. Anthony’s brave article helped me understand and see how bad it has been. Even though I wanted to just forget it, being silent serves de abuser. I don’t know Anthony, but I know we are talking about the same person who does not even use his real name but an alias.

Shame the abuser, not the victims, nor those who help them (us).

Thank you for taking the time to reply. This makes sense, I suppose I will just keep practicing on the daily and let things develop as they are intended to. The note on potential dantian discovery following weight loss is interesting, and something I'll be able to test eventually, as I continue to improve my health. You have an interesting site, I'll try to stop by when I have time and maybe study with you if I feel the call to do so.

Hi Derek. Finding dantian takes a long time. It takes even longer for men for some reason. And it's not just time, but correct practice that you need. If you can feel qi, then you're already on the right track. You need to circulate it, clear blockages, and then actively consolidate it at dantian.

As for belly size, dantian will still sit in roughly the same spot relative to your organs and spine. The belly itself is mostly adipose tissue and will simply create layers on top of that. I have heard students say that it's easier to connect with dantian after losing some of that belly fat, but I can't confirm that.

Sorry I missed this post, Jesper. I'm more active on Substack now. It's confusing, but yes, 20 minutes can be enough, especially if you're already exercising or walking. If you're content with your practice for now, then you don't need more. Later, the 101 might be what you need to get to the next level, or to get back on track. Or you might just skip directly to the 201 to learn some more advanced techniques and skills.

Does the location of the dantian change, or rather, get harder to find depending on belly size? I've been a qigong and kung fu practitioner for 14 years, and to be honest I'm a large dude in his 30s, and while I've felt qi (I think????), I've NEVER been able to find my dantian. I look at diagrams, feel below the navel etc. but... I don't know. I guess I ask this because it has been bothering me lately and my sifu's view is to just... not overthink, just do. A very Daoist response. Which is great but, I'd still like to know LOL. Blame it on my neurosis I guess haha.

This sounds like one of those conversations that really sticks with you. Sifu Anthony touches on chronic pain, trauma, digestion, and how they’re all connected in ways a lot of people don’t always think about. Instead of treating symptoms in isolation, he talks about listening to the body as a whole and understanding how stress, past injuries, and emotional trauma can show up physically over time.
What makes it compelling is how practical it feels — it’s not just theory, but insights you can actually reflect on in your day-to-day life, whether that’s how you move, breathe, or even how you eat. It comes across as both thoughtful and grounded, especially for anyone who’s been dealing with lingering pain or health issues and looking for a deeper, more holistic perspective.
