I don’t know the exact property in garlic and it releases for medicine, but that’s why you would want it to sit after chopping it. It’s the same for ingesting only I was told to wait about 30 minutes. This information is from a master herbalist.

Just wanted to come in and say thanks again! I found this advice quite helpful. I'd been dealing with a sinus issue, first time ever, for the past three months which seems to have finally been resolved yesterday or the day before. So nice to be back to normal workings without the sporadic pressure in dif parts of my face. I had been doing standard neti-pot salt rinses for a couple weeks 2x a day before seeing the article. After seeing the article, I began adding the garlic. It did take 5-7 days of garlic rinses after that to resolve, but I noticed a nice difference after a couple days compared to before. And, to be transparent, the issue seemed to slowllyyyy be resolving before adding the garlic to the rinses, but I think the garlic rinses def played a part in speeding up the resolution a lot.

It's trickier to get the water to flow through, but yes!

Hi Sifu and everybody.
I usually do something similair to this procedure, but I put the water in a bowl, draw it up both nostrils (breath in) and then spit it out through the mouth. Any thought about this? I cannot remember from where I got this idea...
I haven't tried with garlic yet.
Best regards,
Kent from Sweden

Can you mention the reason for POURING BOILING water over the garlic? is it not that one can boil the water, allow it to cool, then pour over the crushed garlic or maybe mix the crushed garlic with cool water for the infusion? The reason I'm saying this is because I'm hearing alot of people curing their chronic sinus issues by colonizing their nasal cavity with a probiotic micro organism called L sakei which is obtained by fermenting garlic. People claim to be getting cured by dabbing their nostrils with certain brands of kimchi or sauerkraut with garlic. There's a website called lacto bacto which is the source of my information. I will be trying their method.

I boiled the water today with whole garlic cloves. Then I crushed the garlic. I am going to drain it and then put in my netti pot. But, how do I store the excess ‘garlic water’? Or is it best to make fresh batch each time I use it?

Several years ago I learned something similar but simpler from my vocal coach. I just mixed a bit of salt in warm water and sucked it up one nostril at a time with open mouth and tilted my head forward so the solution went out through my mouth without touching my tongue. As you can imagine this seems like an "extreme" version. It hurts!!! I've got good results with it. For (semi-) blocked nose I've learned later on a very effective exercise: inhale, close your mouth, pinch your nose and nod your head as long as you can then exhale. Repeat a few times and try to breath in/out only through your nose. It works like a charm for mild blockages and the effects are "temporary so you have to repeat several times throughout the day.
