Hi Deanna. Good to hear from you! I don't have anyone to recommend in Gainesville, unfortunately. My book comes with a free online course, so that might be a good place to start. There's not a lot of kung fu in there, however.

Hello Sifu Anthony,
I took a workshop from you in Gainesville many years ago and I am still feeling a pull toward qigong, needing it now more than ever.
My 16 yr old son and I enjoyed reading this post and especially your older post, Reflections on 20 yrs in the Marital Arts. He would also like to learn qigong and get involved in Marital arts - We are hoping that you could advice on where to start. Is there a place in Gville that you could suggest?
I look forward to working toward implementing qigong into my life and excited that my son will benefit as well. Thank you so much for the work that you do and all that you share.

I encourage kids to think of two animals, one with a short name & one with a long name (think Bear & Chimpanzee for example). Then they make up their own move for each animal. I ask them to inhale while they do the Bear & exhale while they do Chimpanzee. In this way they get to be creative AND learn to take a big breath in & a longer exhale out - which naturally calms the nervous system. It's silly fun. I even do this with grown ups if we need to lighten up - it's a good way to access our inner 8 year old. Laughter always ensues.

I like that about making up their own animal moves. That would work great with Five Animal Play!

Aloha Anthony! Great advice. My first business in Japan was teaching English as a Second Language to students between 3 years old to 85 years old. We developed our school from 27 students to 3500 students in 4 years. We developed many of the techniques you recommend (we didn't have any teachers to learn from so had to observe what worked with our students). Excited to develop a QiGong program for children. And yes, adults are the best role models to get children to learn, except for the teenagers. ;)

Thanks so much "for addressing "Kids' Qigong". Highly value your point of view! I've dabbling with "Animal Sports" while substitute teaching elementary school; from needed time-filler to getting them moving after sitting too long or focused, or even calmed down (cranes and standing hawk meditation). Learned many things. E.g. Stay away from pouncing growling tigers when the class room walls are thin. Talking about butchering forms: Having kids make up their own animal moves is a great way to get them hooked on Qigong.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just love the respectful and gentle way you approach children and teens - and that you teach us parents to approach them that way, too. Now, some reverse psychology, and then, some Qigong with my kid, I hope!

Sifu Anthony,
First off, thank you for the free programs, they are a blessing. I've been doing thec5 phase routine these past few days and tears would flow down my right eye while my left eye remains watery. Would you consider that a normal reaction to the routine?
