Finding a Teacher
by Sifu Anthony Korahais

I receive countless emails and phone calls from people asking if I can recommend a teacher in their area. Typically, they are shocked when I recommend a teacher who lives a few hundred miles from them.

The skills and techniques described in my teacher's books are incredibly rare. I only offer recommendations if I am confident that the person can transmit skills similar to those described in my teacher's books. Unfortunately, these teachers are incredibly hard to find.

Rare Skills

My story should help to put things in perspective. I lived and studied martial arts and energy arts in New York City for over 10 years. New York is home to countless instructors and masters. Nevertheless, after searching diligently for years, I could not find the skills described in Grandmaster Wong's books.

Despite the costs and the difficulties, I chose to learn from my sifu, Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit, because he quickly and generously transmits these skills. That's not to say that that there are not other people who also trasmit these skills. There probably are. But such teachers are incredibly rare and difficult to find, even if you speak Chinese (as I do).

These days, you can learn Tai Chi and Chi Kung at the local health club or YMCA. That's fine, but it's not what Grandmaster Wong describes in his books, nor is it what I teach. If you want to learn what's being taught at the local YMCA, then you don't need my help. But if you want to learn high-level energy arts, then here is my advice.

Long-distance Learning

My best and strongest recommendation to those contacting me is simple: learn from Grandmaster Wong. If you think that his courses are expense, then think again. They are a bargain. Many people spend a decade and small fortune chasing after an experience of internal energy (or chi). Now that's expensive, especially if you've spent a decade searching instead of practicing.

If you can't attend my teacher's courses, then I recommend that you learn from me. I offer special weekend workshops at my studio in Gainesville, Florida. These workshops are perfect for students who live too far to attend my regular classes.

This is a cost-effective way to learn. It is similar to how I myself learned. Dedicated students travel hundreds of miles to learn from me. They visit me 1-3 times a year, and then return home to practice what they've learned. As long as they practice on their own, this method works well.

Ideally, we'd all love to have a master in our home town. But since that's about as likely as winning the lottery, this alternative is a good option. If you are interested in these workshops, then please join my mailing list to stay updated:

Educate yourself

Whether or not you learn from Grandmaster Wong, me, or another teacher, I strongly recommend that you read my teacher's books. The more you educate yourself, the easier it will be to navigate the world of energy arts. I read literally hundreds of books before finding my teacher. If I had found his books sooner, I would have saved a lot of time.

For those interested in learning Cosmos Chi Kung, I recommend "The Art of Chi Kung". For those interested in Shaolin Kung Fu (or any style of kung fu), I would strongly recommend "The Art of Shaolin Kung Fu." In my opinion, these are the two best books on their respective subjects available in English. In addition to the books, a lot of free information can be found on my web site.
