Index of Questions Asked:

1:21 – My girlfriend and I were talking about feeling chi in the hands, especially after doing certain sets. I can feel it as a force like repelling magnets, she feels a tingling in her arms and hands. Sometimes she feels that tingling going up the right side of her neck, across her cheek and ear and to the top of her head, only on the right side. Is this unusual or something to be worried about?

6:04 – I’m teaching Qigong at a local fitness center. I’m trying to entice people who are there working out to come try Qigong. I’ve put up fliers announcing a new Qigong class to enhance their existing workouts. I even call it Warrior Qigong although I’ve not introduced stances). To date I’ve introduced 30 Punches and Giant Bird Spreads Wings as well as 3 Levels to Earth. My existing students come and love it, but I’m not getting new people from the membership. What else could I add to the sessions and do you have any guidance regarding enticing people to come try it?

11:58 – What benefits might I expect to experience by coming to a retreat in Costa Rica and will these benefits continue after returning home?

15:43 – Please share any wisdom as to how I can most gracefully flow from one exercise or pattern to the next? Example: Lifting the Sky to Shooting Arrows or Merry-Go-Round.

19:39 – Are we learning how to control chi to direct the flow, or are we learning to control our mind/body so chi can flow?

23:29 – Is your Flowing Zen Online Academy is still available to join? I purchased your online course on anxiety and depression. You mentioned being able to join the Online Academy, but I can’t find any way to join. Is it available in other countries? I’d really like to learn more. Alternatively, the Qigong 101 course in the Qi School, will it be open to register for again soon?

Note: Click here for more information about the Qigong 101 Program that I mention in my answer.

27:43 – I was wondering if certain combos of Qigong techniques are synergistic? For example, would practicing the 18 Luohan Hands, the 3 Qigong Treasures, or Ba Duan Jin as a set bring more benefits than just one holistic exercise like Lifting Sky, or practicing them separately? I’ve been doing specific exercises like Lifting Heels Bend Knees, and Big Windmill. It’s helped, but are there more efficient combos for healing?

34:06 – I would love to join your yearly program, when are you opening doors to Qigong 101?

Note: Click here for more information about the Qigong 101 Program that I mention in my answer.

34:59 – Do you have any specific recommendations for ADHD?

38:21 – My question is about how to bring my chi back into balance when I realize I’m getting a cold, or how to protect myself against one. I’m surprised to find I have one at the moment as I’m practicing daily and I’ve made massive changes to my nutrition and lifestyle, cutting out most processed food, now eating for nutrition and energy, and I’m enjoying every moment of it. I have lost weight, I’m drinking water and herbal tea and taking vitamin supplements. I’m moving better and feeling and looking healthier but I still came down with a cold with the rest of my office. What else could I be doing? Also, when I do get sick it starts in my throat. It’s late fall here in New Zealand.

43:32 – I missed a lot of the units this time around, would like to go back to square one [with the Qigong 101 program]. Would I be able to start again with the new series?

44:26 – Can you comment on what other arts are out there beyond Cosmos Palm that use the Small Universe as the basis for advanced practice?

45:31 – (follow up about ADHD) – Her son is 20 years old. (Akemi provides answer this time)

47:25 – Following your dietary advice (no sugar, grains, etc) I’m able to manage joint pain pretty well. There’s no real problem since your miracle with the knee, just occasional aches and pains. Is there any type of supplement that might also help? Years ago I used to take glucosamine and condroiten.

51:20 – Have you two worked together to help someone with Parkinson’s? If so, was it helpful?

53:40 – Any good results with Qigong for panic attacks? And Chinese Medicine?

57:26 – (follow up) Do you recommend eating more of the vegetables raw or cooked or does it matter?

59:04 – How can I help my body when one organ is missing? I have no gallbladder and my digestion is not good since it was removed. Do you have any recommendations?

1:02:56 – I’ve been practicing One Finger Zen lately. It seems like the best zhan zhuang form to accompany this practice is Golden Bridge. Is Golden Bridge simply ma bu but with hands extended in One Finger Zen form? Or are there finer points involved?

1:04:46 – Holly – Can Akemi elaborate more on the reasons for removing all grains from the diet?

Note: Akemi and I recommend this book for those interested in grain-free eating:

1:05:41 – You mentioned frozen shoulders. I’ve been diagnosed with a frozen shoulder, and and an impingement bone spur following 2 outstretched arm falls in 9 months. I’m getting great results from yoga practice, Qigong practice, and a bone marrow cleansing routine I learned from my previous teacher. I’m doing physiotherapy exercises in the middle of the day. Since I first saw a Physiotherapist in March, I’ve worked at it daily, making a return of 90% of range in all but 2 movements. The range I’m still sticking on is sliding the hand/arm up the back, or reaching back up. I wonder if there’s anything you might recommend adding.

1:09:58 – I’m experiencing continuous pain in the back of my upper legs and hips when walking. I have sciatica but I’m wondering if this pain is due to that. Also experiencing severe cramping after having walked a lot. I’m 66 years old.

1:14:06 – How do I contact Akemi?

1:15:44 – Where are your puppies?

1:18:55 – Cindy – Question about hand diseases and illnesses, different types of tendinitis.
